Aggression in Dogs:
It's a serious, complex behavior, and a frequent cause for surrender. You need to understand the aspects of aggression that we review:
- Where aggression comes from;
- Why dogs exhibit aggression;
- How to recognize it on intake;
- The difficulty of trying to modify it; and
- Liabilities and risks if behavior modification fails.
Canine Behavior & Temperament Evaluations:
Our well designed behavior evaluation will help you to make sound adoption decisions based on:
- The dog's basic personality,
- The dog's sociability & temperament, and
- It's threshold level for aggression.
- The goals: better re-homing matches and less exposure to potential aggression for adopters and others.
Feline Behavior Evaluations:
Such evaluations are common for dogs, rare for cats. But knowing a cat's personality can improve an adoption. So we'll show how to do them for cats.
How Animals Learn; Basic Behavior Modification:
Understanding how animals learn enables you to train them or modify behavior. We'll show:
- How they learn,
- How best to communicate & train them, and
- The basics of behavior modification for troubling behavior.
Training and Behavior Modification in the Shelter:
Simple training can be carried out in the shelter to improve adoption potential and success. Training is also a form of mental and social enrichment. We'll cover specific training goals best suited to shelters. Modifying behavior in shelters can be difficult given problems of time, consistency, & overall controls.
