SUE STERNBERG "Problem Assessments"
Saturday • September 20th • 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Sue will present a range of canine responses from friendly to aggressive, initially via extensive new video footage. Then, incorporating live demo dogs, she will evaluate common behavior problems and guide the audience in identifying specific issues that John will present solutions for (when solvable) on Sunday. Among the problem behaviors we'll be discussing are:

  1. RESOURCE GUARDING: A dog that is possessive over a toy or raw hide chew
  2. DOMINANCE AGGRESSION (or the potential for it) over people during handling or grooming etc. / disturbing the dog when resting or moving the dog by the collar.
  3. DOG-DOG AGGRESSION (on lead displays etc.), and
  4. Either STRANGER AGGRESSION or UNRULY BUT MANAGEABLE behaviors.

JOHN ROGERSON "Rehab Protocols"
Sunday • September 21th • 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Working with Saturday's dogs & videos, John will provide protocols to address the issues raised by Sue's assessments. He'll focus on solutions that can be put in place by the average trainer. John feels that if the average trainer can't fix the problem then an owner has no chance whatsoever. There will be some emphasis on the underlying causes of, and behavior modification programs for, canine aggressions such as:

  1. RESOURCE GUARDING--distinguishing first between a dog that just growls when a person approaches the food bowl vs. a dog that attacks as soon as someone enters the room while the dog is eating. Then showing how to peacefully liberate a guarded raw hide chew.
  2. DOMINANCE AGGRESSION - showing how a good groomer addresses these issues since they handle dogs like this every day
  3. DOG-DOG AGGRESSION: Protocals utilizing the services of one or more neutral dogs.
  4. DISTINGUISHING UNRULY FROM UNMANAGEABLE --and setting up ground rules for instilling basic manners, training andbonding in the unruly but not aggressive canines.
